President and CEO
Cooperative Home Care Associates
Beginning January 2017, Adria Powell took the helm as President and CEO of Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA), the largest employee owned cooperative business in the country. CHCA is a 32-year old Licensed Home Care Service Agency (LHCSA), firmly anchored in the Bronx. Ms. Powell is responsible for the oversight of more than 2,000 home care workers and over 100 administrative staff. Nearly half of the 2,100 employees own a share of Cooperative. Ms. Powell has worked for CHCA since 1988. Through the years, she has held various roles with progressive responsibility. Starting as a Service Delivery Coordinator, her focus has always been operating and managing the LHCSA. In Adria’s current leadership role, she runs an agency which empowers home health aides—who typically earn modest wages for taking care of the elderly and disabled at home—by giving them better benefits and opportunities to buy a stake in the business, serve on its board of directors and share in profits. CHCA is an organization committed to creating quality jobs for workers in order to deliver a higher level of quality care to home care recipients. Adria leads this innovative organization with the belief that investing in the home care workforce will result in quality outcomes and higher consumer satisfaction.
